One fine day the shadow fell
When my husband came to tell
Prepare the children we take our leave
On the mighty Batavia we sail
Aboard we went with children five
300 other souls as well
The ship was grand
But its maiden voyage
Would soon become a living hell
I never will forget the day
I told my wife prepare to go
How could I see the choice I made
Would bring despair how could I know?

We sailed, the salty depths below
Too soon dark night
The axe would fall
Their blood would mingle with the ocean's flow

Or terrified people awaiting their plight

Late one night the moon was high

When a sudden stop threw us from our beds
